Introduction to Welsh Settlers in Patagonia     Back to British Settlers in Argentina home page and search facility

Richard J. Berwyn, in his register of deaths in the Welsh Patagonian colony, lists them under two categories, 'natural' deaths, and those who died unexpectedly, for whom it was thought necessary to hold an inquest. I have repeated this division here. It is worth noting that between the two tables there is no repetition of data.

The spelling of the place names is as they appear in the 1997 Spanish edition of Berwyn's Register. Berwyn did not state the ages of the men who were lost in the sinking of the Denby. However, the members of the crew figure on the muster list for the Colony's militia, dated 8th January 1868, not many weeks before the foundering of the Denby. The ages stated there have been added to their names in the list of people over whom an inquest was held.

The presentation of these tables of deaths and inquests is of my own creation, designed in the hope that it will make it easier for readers to look for the records that interest them.
